Title: Sustainable Tourism in Taiwan

Taiwan only has 36,000 square kilometers, but 60% of its area is high mountain terrain, including five major mountain ranges and more than 100 mountains above 3,000 meters. Therefore, it has very rich ecological diversity and the ethnic culture of 16 aboriginal ethnic groups. Currently, Taiwan has 9 national parks, 22 nature reserves, 21 wildlife reserves, and 18 national forest recreation areas. Since 2002, Taiwan’s policy has comprehensively promoted eco-tourism, implemented a certification system for eco-friendly hotels and eco-friendly restaurants, encouraged green tourism and low-carbon tourism and developed inbound and domestic tourism based on the concept of sustainable tourism. This dialogue session aims to foster a bilateral understanding of sustainability in the context of tourism between Taiwan and Japan. Discussions would include sustainability and resilience.
